Abstract

Eduardo Maturana (Valparaíso, 1920-Toronto, 2003) is a Chilean compositor not very well known abroad. This article is focused on periods of his life in Chile and during his subsequent exile. Particular attention is given to his Diez micropiezas (Ten Micropieces) written for string quartet between 1951 and 1952 and to the Responso para el guerrillero (Requiem for the Warrior) (Ernesto Che Guevara) composed in 1968. Besides the causes of the exile and its consequences for the process of artistic creation are examined.
