This article reflects on the relationship between public policies and indigenous women. For this, three factors considered key are analyzed: the historical relationship that the State and Chilean society has maintained with the indigenous peoples, the patriarchal system as a framework of gender definition in institutional policies, and the neoliberal model (necessary to consider when thinking about the public policies in Chile). In addition, the notion of the coloniality of gender is considered as a contribution that allows broadening the discussion on the relationship between public policies and indigenous women. It starts from the premise of the condition of the authors as mestizo and women researchers, posing a reflective vision of their own gender coloniality.
