Abstract

This article presents the results of an analysis over a bibliometric database of 809 archaeological papers in the 1980-2016 period, based on a sample of 41 archaeologists, to explore patterns in Chilean archaeological publications. The results suggest a progressive rise in the volume of publication in general, an increase of English written publications over Spanish ones since 2014 and a diversification in the number of journals that concentrate the archaeological publication in decades. The data is discussed considering contemporary debates in the scientific community about the effects of scientific assessment systems on research activity in general.
