Heritage imaginaries and their dispute: The impact of non-monumental Pleistocene sites on local communities of north central Chile

Abstract

Non-monumental archaeological sites of the first Americans are reclaimed as heritage and symbolic capital, and are also commercialized as a trademark that identifies and protects what is own. In this context, the heritage process in two communities of Central-South Chile is ethnographic studied. The archaeological discourse and the discourse of the different local groups, along with the way in which they create, manage and administer the imaginaries around these findings its material, temporal and spatial qualities.
