Authors

Abstract

This article aims to present a general diagnosis of the conditions of higher education for Purépecha youth in Michoacán, Mexico. For this, a quantitative analysis was carried out on the personal, family and contextual factors that influence their choices regarding university life. In methodological terms, a documentary review of intercultural educational policies in the state was carried out, a survey was applied in four Purépecha communities and focus groups were held with high school students. Among the relevant findings is that the indigenous population has limited institutional conditions that make it difficult to enter and remain in higher education, in addition to the fact that their experiences and expectations are rarely taken into account in the curricular designs and applications of intercultural universities.
